Learning

pastarchives

In our role as a Beit Midrash – a House of study – the OJC provides a variety of educational experiences. We are fortunate in Oxford to be able to reap the benefits of many members of the academic community who are able to share their knowledge with members – as well as many visiting academics who can be invited in. We hold regular talks and study sessions during term time and members also benefit from the opportunity to go to lectures and talks organised by students, the Jsoc, and the University which are widely advertised through the community newsletter.

Together with the Student Chaplain there are often short study sessions organised before or as a part of many of the festivals. Study is considered to be the highest of all the mitzvot (commandments), we learn in order to become Jews who care about each other, about the environment and about others; and so that we can contribute to the world around us.

We are always open to new ideas and other ways to learn together and so anyone wishing to suggest a topic or series of talks or study items will always be listened to.

Learning is a way of enriching our lives, of ensuring that our Judaism becomes a vibrant and living force in our own lives. There really is no excuse not to dip in and experience the many courses on offer and meet new people as you exchange ideas.
