Publications
In addition to the Congregation's Annual Report which is mailed to all members prior to the Annual General Meeting in January, OJC members also receive a weekly e-bulletin, and monthly one of two other publications: OJC News and Oxford Menorah.
There is a weekly e-bulletin to keep members regularly informed of what is going on at the OJC and around Oxford of general Jewish interest. This includes a list of services and times, and any other community notices. It is generated by the community development officer with the assistance of the President and Secretary. It is disseminated by email, and hard copies are available at the Centre and posted on the notice boards.
The OJC news is a newsletter published by the OJC for the benefit of its members. The newsletter currently appears 8 times annually. It provides news, reports and commentary about issues of interest to members, and about recent and forthcoming activities and events within the Congregation and the other communal organisations loosely based at the Oxford Jewish Centre. Each issue also contains a few short articles, including one by the OJC President. As the e-bulletin, it also acts as a (limited) noticeboard for individual members of the Congregation (for example, requests for accommodation, lifts, lost property). Oxford Menorah is a quarterly magazine (created by the Menorah society) containing articles of interest to the wider Oxford Jewish community (not just the Congregation) which is independent of, but subsidised by OJC. The editors welcome articles on a wide variety of subjects from members of the community and beyond. Nearly all contributions are written by community members and articles are encouraged from all ages and covering many interests. These may cover topics of general Jewish interest, or specific issues arising within the community. It also carries extended reports on events organized within the community, and on the personal achievements of members. It acts as a forum for comment and debate as well as a vehicle for details about future events and for members to send New Year greetings. There is considerable scope for development in line with what members would like to offer: for example, book and film reviews, are sometimes commissioned, but could also be volunteered. More generally we would like to extend the range of articles to include more educational and imaginative writing on Jewish topics and to encourage more contributions from the community's children.
Menorah comes out at the beginning of March, June, September and December, and is also available to subscribers.
Rates (incl. postage): UK £10/yr, overseas £15/yr. For further information, or to volunteer to submit articles, please contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
