Oxford WIZO.uk

WIZOOxford Women's Zionist Society (now Oxford WIZO.uk) was founded in 1939, a branch of WIZO.uk, a non-governmental, non-political organisation, Anglo Jewry's largest women's group. Its aims are to increase awareness and knowledge of Jewish identity, heritage and culture amongst its members; to enhance the quality of life of Israel's citizens by providing for their welfare and to advance the status of women in Israel; also to help Jews formerly in repressive countries regain their Jewish identities.

To this end WIZO.uk organises a varied programme of social, cultural events to raise funds events each year. This might include talks and lectures on diverse subjects; unusual social events such as opera evenings, cookery demonstrations, debates, walks and quizzes; a bridge tournament; community events. The money raised funds over 800 institutions and services such as Child Day Care Centres, schools, orphanages and community centres; women's refuges, rape crisis centres, help lines and education programmes; services for the aged; and assistance for new immigrants in Israel.

WIZO is proud that people of all religions and racial backgrounds access these facilities. While the Israeli government jointly funds projects, WIZO is a non-political organisation and is recognised by the UN.

Whatever your age and lifestyle, we can offer something to you, and whilst participating in activities, you are also benefiting the wider Jewish community.

The Oxford branch of WIZO.uk is very active with many events throughout the year. Membership includes regular mailshots, receipt of WIZO.uk's glossy magazine three times a year and membership of this worldwide dynamic, voluntary women's movement.

Men also often attend the WIZO meetings and are welcome to come.
